I just changed my pressure reg out...took a few rips of the banana cush and got er done!
The rinse is important. The main drain was clear. The cycle was dirty with sediment. Don't forget to close the valve at the top. It would appear water will come out of it. : )
thanks. used some of the steps to install a Corro-Protec. Beautiful neighborhood by the way, used to be in socal.
Clear and concise. Thank you!
FYI Evidently, this business about water heaters needing annual draining is only for areas where there is hard water. Here in Toronto we don't have that issue. Based on this video, I just had a service guy come by to drain my heater and he hipped me to all the issues. He drained a bit of it anyway and we could see NO sediments at all from this 14 year old heater that has never been drained. Luckily, the service call was free.
I've seen where they tell you to open up the hot side of a close faucet near the water heater. Then go to another level of the house and open up another level and open up that hot water side of the faucet. There is no need to unconnect the flexible pipe. What if you didn't use flexible pipe and used copper
Nope __ this video is a fail. Gotta replace that crappy tiny drain valve with the larger ball valve/ w/ the straight lever handle __ this results in a bigger hole for sediment to drain out of
Great video, very helpful.
Thank you I didn't think through the air lock.
Nice information, very well explained, tips like the tapping of the pressure relief valve were appreciated. Thank You much!!!
Simple and detailed explanation. Thanks for sharing. Salud 🍻🍻🍻
It's not completely drained there's more in the bottom moron
Did everything step by step. Noticed black flakey sediment during the 5m flush. Flushed it for an additional 5m and still noticed the black flakey sediment but not as much when doing the flush. Opened up all the hot water valves in the house and noticed the flakey sediment coming through the sinks and shower. Will this eventually settle down to the bottom or will I still get sediment from the sinks/shower? Thanks
Thank you! First time taking this task on and we nailed it. 🙌 On that note, any recommendations to prevent future struggles of getting my hose off the drain valve when finished? I also couldn't get the hose piece working while draining it, thinking I might be plugged the hose with sediment, is that possible? I did finally get it to work for the flushing piece! Again, thank you!
1:19 "A turn or two" is equivalent to "one grunt at most."
I use this video every year. Thanks for posting. Our old water heater cracked 5 years ago because I did not know you were suppose to do this.
Your welcome.Draining helps prolong life
Always drain our tank right after the 4th🎉! Been watching this video every year as a refresher, great video and sound advice! 👍
Thank you for the coaching. Very informative.
Nice Vid, very through and easy to follow, just did mines, installed a split T on the cold line to flow water to an ice maker, decided to flush it out after the installation was complete. 😊👍
If my plumber was as hot as this guy is, i would brake the pipes myself just to have him over.
Great video. Was able to follow instructions, even when my water heater has an electric ignition (no pilot).
is it feasible to install if supply line is from the floor, about 5 inches from wall?
I would have made a point to alternate tightening the closet bolts on the wax ring...especially for as many pieces as that toilet comes in...
This guy is true old school knowledgeable plumber, they do not make em like they used to.....keep up the good work
Michael thanks for the great comment and hope this helped you with your water heater.
I can't find my recirculation pump. Do they all have that?
That trapway size is very optimistic as far as the size of the more substantual girth of log clearance is concerned 🤔
Great vid. Well done!
Charles of CRC, thank you so much, I have never drained a water heater, and with your excellent instructions, it worked on the first try, very nice!
Do you need to drain your tank if you have a water softener?
Okay hopefully you'll catch this since it's a new comment on an old video. My pressure relief valve isn't hooked up with copper piping out the bottom. Do I have to fit that and build up the recirculation system before I try and drain my tank?
What if I don’t have a recirculation pump?
Why all the brass home made crap . Why don't you just get a regular tank for your thing
Very informative and really helpful. Thank you.
If you have a water softner should you drain water heater annually?
Toto auto flush addition
Needs the ring
Finally, a talk about these tanks which include a diagram of what's going on. Here's the thing I'm still unclear about: Is the pressure reducer (between the city water supply and the building) acting as a back-flow preventer? First, I can't imagine how you could make a reducer which _didn't_ also have this "check-valve" behavior, and, second, if it didn't work like this, then the thermal expansion could just flow back to the city water main, so there'd be no need for the compensator tank.
Hey dad
Hi Son.
Are you a real plumber? Why you have to loosen your outlet water hose? Just open your faucet inside your house. Lol
My uncle found someone living inside his water heater. When he first discovered him he attacked my uncle, nearly chewed his arm off, it was horrifying. My aunt hit the guy with a shovel.
What if doesn’t drain?
I can’t find mine at all
What is the "proper size bit"? Thanks.
Not the video I want to be watching at 1am, but when my water heater spilled its guts, I'm glad it was here! Thank you!
Thanks for the very easy steps. First time home buyer here and I didn't even know this was required..
Your welcome. Many people are not aware of the importance of draining down the tank.
What if there is no pump?
People usually only have a pump when it takes a long time to deliver.
My hot water heater is about 15 years old. Is it too late to drain it? or, should I just go ahead and replace it with new heater?
At 15 years I am not sure it will drain without a challenge
Thank you for posting, I'm grateful. Y only has two vaulves outside easy peacy. Why your is so complicated?
Charles sounds like Donald Trump. This vid made a YUGE difference in my maintenance.
You can tell this guy gets paid hourly.
